How to Clean Up Internet Explorer's Temporary Files Automatically

Every time you open a Web page with Internet Explorer (IE), it creates a cache file (a temporary copy) of that page's text and graphics. So, when IE opens up that page again, for example, should you click on the |Backspace| key or click on the Back button on the toolbar to go back (return) to a previously viewed Web page, IE by default checks the Web sites server for any changes (updated information) for that page. If IE finds that the page has changed, it retrieves all the necessary information from the server and renders a newer and updated version of the Web page in your browser. On the other hand, if the page has not changed, IE uses the cache or temporary files either from physical Random Access Memory (RAM), or from Virtual memory (a folder) on your hard drive until the cache file is full. At which time, it swaps out and deletes an older page with a newer page. The caching system was designed to help load Web pages quicker, however, the problem is that when you view a large number of Web pages you tend to overload the hard drive cache with information IE has to check before it loads a Web page. The overloaded hard drive cache can cause IE to display out of date information and make it sluggish when starting or exiting. The solution? Is to clear out the hard drive cache, and with IE6, you can automate the process. more
